The F-105G was the final version of the venerable Republic F-105 Thunderchief. Known as the “Wild Weasel”, the F-105G was specially equipped to seek out and destroy Surface to Air (SAM) missile sites. During the latter stages of the Vietnam War, the F-105G was tasked with protecting American aircraft over the skies of North Vietnam.

This kit in particular is a reproduction of the old 1/48 Monogram F-105G and features a detailed cockpit, raised panel lines, and an assortment of munitions. I painted it with Testors Model Master paints and used a Legend resin cockpit set. Everything else was built OOB. I weathered it using an oil was and some airbrushing to detail the gun residue and cartridge starter exhaust.

It is painted as a Weasel from the 562nd TFS, George AFB in 1980. I was hoping for the decal set for 62-0430 since it was credited with three kills but no such luck. Maybe on my next model….

Being as this only my second model built in over 10 years, I feel it came out very well. It took me over a year to complete it due to both laziness and my job taking priority.
