VF-2 Bounty Hunters

Here is my latest contraption, I wanted to build an early colorful Tomcat and I love the Bounty Hunters scheme so I chose the Hasegawa kit.  I built it out of the box for the most part with the addition of some scratch built detail on the cockpit sidewall and I added wire to the main landing gear struts to simulate the brake lines.

Construction went fairly well but a lot of work was needed to sand and finish the seams. Especially troublesome were the intakes and mounting the cockpit section.  I used Xtracolor paints and Future for the gloss coat.  The decals went on nicely with some Microset and Sol.

This model depicts an early Tomcat which were not as beat up as later F-14’s so I went easy on the weathering, which was difficult because I love the weathering process. Using reference photos I used a grey wash and added some light streaking and smudging around the engine access panels and flap hinges. Overall it was a great build, took about four months.
