Boeing 747-400F Singapore Airlines Cargo "Mega Ark" (9V-SFD)

Greetings from humid Singapore and home to the beautiful purple orchid flower...

This is a converted 144th scale Airfix 747-200 done in Singapore Airlines "Mega Ark" Cargo livery. Thus far, I have not come across a conversion kit for the freighter version of the 747-400, which is a unique Boeing 747-400. Therefore, I had to purchase 2 kits and use the fuselage of the Airfix 747-200 (which accurately represents the correct short single deck fuselage head) and the Revell AG kit, which represents the accurate 747-400 winglets, and the four Pratt & Whitney engines. Cost me a fortune :-(

I had to make some major adjustments in mating the Airfix wing of the 747 and the Revell engines. Lots of trial and error in dry fitting attempts were made to ensure correct placement prior to attaching the engines and the wing. All of it made possible with CA super glue :-)

Then, it was the usual process of spraying the primer and airbrushing down the colors of the plane and white spray can used on the gloss white fuselage for a nice white finish. Decals used were from Flying Colors FC44-009 which went on smoothly. However, I spent a lot of time on joining the rear end fuselage decal with both port and starboard ends. Lots of reference material was obtained from Airliners.net. Once everything was done, the plane was coated with Gunze super gloss coat, mounted with epoxy on a wooden stand and enclosed in a showcase. This plane was a commissioned build for a Captain who use to fly this 747-400F during his First Officer days several years ago.

Hope you like my artwork and pictures!
