"THE RUSSIANS are
COMING" was the cry during the spring and summer of 1989 for that years
Abbotsford Air Show.
The Mig-29 Fulcrum is the latest subject of my workbench to be submitted to the
great ARC web site. And would hereby like to dedicate it to the upcoming 50th
Anniversary of the Abbotsford Air Show in August 2012.
History
The Mig-29 a front line fighter of the Soviet Union, incorporated state-of-the-art technology to make it an equal match to any fighter the west can put forth. The Mig-29 had the ability to operate from rough or unimproved runways and highways. Using extra heavy duty landing gear, low pressure tires, and a totally unique above the wing air intake system, the Mig-29 can easily use any 1000 foot stretch of unimproved road for a runway.
The Mig-29 has a
thrust-to-weight ratio of 1.4 and can deliver a total trust in excess of 36,000
lbs., much higher than either the U.S. F-16 or F-18 fighters at that time.

The Model-- is from the
Revell 1/32 series of the early nineties (1991). It depicts an earlier
airframe of a Mig-29A and went together fairly well with no complications to
speak off. Very little filler was needed on the wings or fuselage joints. The
wing tanks came from the spares box and some PE parts were used during the
build. The markings were from the box and were the inspiration for the subject
which in 1989 was the main attraction at the Abbotsford Air Show and the first
Soviet Mig-29 visit to North America.
The black and white
photograph show the Mig-OKB's display Mig-29 Fulcrum A flown by Roman Taskayev
over the rugged Canadian mountains escorted by an CAF CF-18 Hornet of No.441
Squadron enroute to the Abbotsford Air Show in 1989.
Do enjoy the photographs
and great modeling to you all!! John Smalbrugge
