India Republic Day

I built these two models for a friend of mine who flies the SH 60 B in the US Navy.  He had a Ukrainian grand aunt who flew the PO 2 in the Second World War as one of the all women night bomber squadrons on the Ukrainian front in the early days of the German invasion of the then USSR.

The Southwestern Front was on the main axis of attack by the German Army Group South during Operation Barbarossa.  Her death telegram reads –“Pilot 4th class 4th Squadron South Western Special Aviation Group Tovarish Evtykhova, Anna Leantova died 28 November 1941 while flying a combat mission in the Krapinska Rostovskaya Oblast” (near the town of Rostov on Don).

I used the well known Hobby boss kit for the SH 60B and fittingly, a Ukrainian Modelist kit for the PO 2.  The decals are non representative but typical of the flamboyant propaganda applied on these machines.  I also used a Moscow cottage industry PE Shkas 7.62mm machine gun in place of the non scale original.

The base is hobby train grass matting painted in places and a printed base for the Sea Hawk.
