RV Aircraft produced their
MiG-21's as limited run kits that include resin parts for the cockpit/exterior, PE details as well as decals and paint masks. The plastic fuselage parts and wings have very finely engraved details, both in panel lines and rivets. Nice!!
I was very curious to see how this would end up after a panel wash.
This was a fairly straightforward construction, as the kit has a rather low number of parts and fit is surprisingly good for a limited run kit. Fitting the resin cockpit tub and nose wheel bay required some adjusting and filling here and there, but nothing too difficult.

I finished this aircraft as a
MiG-21MF of the Romanian AF, using the nice resin cockpit parts which appear typical for an 80's type aircraft. This particular camouflage scheme is however more suitable for aircraft that went through the LanceR upgrade program in the late 90's: a bit of artistic license on my part I guess.
Colors are enamels:
I settled for Model Master European Dark Green and Humbrol Grass Green, Light Grey and Desert Yellow combined with Humbrol Light Blue for the underside. On the exhaust area Alclad was applied. Gloss / flat coats are acrylics, I used the decals from the kit that worked very well (and are very thin). There are no stencils included, so I used leftovers from the spares box. Looking at reference pictures of some very weary Romanian
MiGs, the model was weathered using airbrush shading, panel line washes and oil paints to give that well-used look.
