Grumman E-1B Tracer. (Willy Fad)

After a visit on board the USS FD Roosevelt back in 1966 and spotting three WF-2s on deck, a type I have seen for the first time, I wanted to build a scale model of it. This is basically a C-1A with APS-82 surveillance radar in a tortoise shell shaped radome above the fuselage, necessitating a three-fin tail unit. This is the E-1B (Originally WF-2) Tracer, an airborne early warning station.

Starting with a Hasegawa Tracker kit and modifying the engine nacelle, fuselage depth similar to a C-1A, tail unit and the huge radomes all made up from yellow pine. This kit was built some time before the Falcon vac form conversion kit came out.

Enjoy the photos.
