This is the 1/48 Hobby Boss F4F-3 Wildcat (Early). The early F4F-3s were one the last type of U.S. Navy Aircraft painted with the High Visibility "Yellow Wings" Paint Scheme before the U.S. Navy went to low visibility schemes just prior to the entry into WWII.

Each U.S. Navy Carrier was assigned a specific tail color for its embarked aircraft. Black tailed aircraft were assigned to the U.S.S. Wasp (CV-7). U.S. Navy squadrons during this time were made up of 18 aircraft broken down into 6 sections of 3 aircraft. Each 3 plane section was assigned a unique color within the squadron that was painted on the cowling, the fuselage and the wings. This particular Wildcat is marked as a fighter from VF-72, section leader of section 6 (section 6's color was yellow) and assigned to the U.S.S Wasp.

The Hobby Boss Wildcats are a great build and have fine detail. I used the kit supplied decals, Tamiya Acrylic paint for the finish and sealed the Wildcat with a gloss coat of Future. MIG Ammo elastic rigging was used for the antenna.
