I would like to
share some images of my Accurate Miniatures Ilyushin IL-2 "Stormovik."
I used an Eduard photo etched detail set in the construction of this kit. There
are many parts for the cockpit and wheel wells to enhance this great kit, and
very little "plastic surgery" is required.

I built this model
from the issue of the kit with skis, but since the wheels are included, I
decided to build a "Flying Tank" that is not wearing winter
camouflage. I could find no aftermarket decals for the single seat varient, so I
used the kit's markings. I turned the tail number upside down to give me a #9.
The washes are enamel, using the
base color plus flat black. For the four-color camouflage, four different color
washes were used in their respective areas. I prefer this subtle wash, as it
appears more realistic to me than having panel lines that have a higher
contrast. Drybrushing was accomplished by mixing the base enamel colors with
Titanium White oil paint. I used some Earth-tone pastels in the cockpit and
wheel wells.

Following the
pattern in the kit's instructions, I applied Model Master's WW II Russian colors
of Underside Blue, Topside Green, and Earth Gray. The Black is a mixture of
Model Master Aircraft Interior Black and Neutral Gray. These colors were all
sprayed freehand, using a Badger 150 airbrush.
