Help! Fellow modellers, I
stumbled across an interesting die-cast aeroplane model in an miniature train
and automobile jumble sale, near my hometown Uden in the Netherlands. The model
was crudely painted brown and green, which I removed with paintstripper. What
remained is this die-cast rendition of a Fiat G.12.

The model is
approximately 1/200 scale, with a 14.5 cm wingspan and 11.5 cm length. It looks
very old, maybe it was a recognition model of WW2 vintage like the old Wiking
plastic models (also to 1/200th scale) or it could be a presentation model
mounted on a stand of sorts. On an ashtray, perhaps? The bottom shows some sort
of covered-up mounting hole. It probably also had a landing
gear, because the mounts are still
more or less present.
The bottom of the left wing shows
the text "FIAT G 212" and on the right wing "N. 132(?)"
and "MADE IN ITALY"
The logo of the manufacturer is
unreadable. I have a fine colour photograph of the real thing from the book
"Nei Ceili di Guerra" showing a Fiat G.12. Modellers; could any of you
shed some light on this model? Like who is the manufacturer, are there more
subjects of this sort of models, anything would help! Thanks a lot!!
Robert-Jan
