This
is my
1/48 P-47 D 27 RE Thunderbolt finished in the markings of “Oh
Johnnie” flown by Lt.Raymond L.Knight from the
348 th Fighter Squadron,350th Fighter Group,12th Air force based at Pisa
Italy during the spring of 1945.
“Lt
Knight was awarded the Medal of Honor for
low level attacks against German airfields in Northern Italy on 24 and 25 April
1945.He destroyed over 20 German aircraft before he was brought down by flak and
killed.
Lt
Knight was the only Medal of Honor winner
who flew the P-47 in the European Theater”.
The model has built mostly OOB except for the Eduard seat
belts and Tally Ho PE gunsight used in the cockpit .
Decals are from the Superscale decal sheet (# 48793).
The code
“RE” refers to Farmingdale factory production so “Oh Johnnie” has
“the Hamilton Standart propeller”.
Painting
was done by the Gunze Sangyo and Tamiya acrylics, and later
weathered by artist oil paint washing.
