This
is my first submission to ARC. It is the excellent Tamiya Do-335 ‘Pfeil’,
which I built straight from the box. The only modification I made was to
the pilot figure. I wanted to display the model in-flight, and the
pilot included with the model has a very relaxed posture, which is more suitable
for a grounded aircraft.

Here
you can see how I modified the pilot. I cut and replaced the right arm so
it would hold the control stick, sanded the molded in goggles and made new ones
from lead foil, removed the oxygen mask and hose and made replacements from
putty and a hose made of fine wire wrapped around thicker wire.
Since
the backside of the instrument panel is visible from the outside, I added some
minimal wiring detail with fine solder.
I
didn’t particularly like the bland camouflage scheme of this aircraft, so I
gave it my own version of a more colorful late war Luftwaffe camo. The
model was painted with Tamiya acrylics, and weathered with pastels and a dark
enamel wash. The markings are a combination of the kit’s decals
and some from my spares box. I used a display base from Creative
Displays. The spinning propellers in some of the pictures are courtesy of
my wife’s hair dryer
