In 2004, the Irish
Air Corps took delivery of brand new PC-9 Turbo-props. It had been sometime
since the Aer Corps had something new to play with and on various relevant
forums in Ireland there was much debate as to whether or not we should had gone
for broke and purchased small fast jets, since the last time the Irish Aer Corps
actually operated it's OWN jets was in the 1960's (Vampires).
The general consenus
was, if the Irish Government could afford it, 4 BAe Hawks would be cool. The
Airfix kit was relatively new at the time, so I bought one and just for the
laugh, made this!
The paint job is
what is currently used on the PC-9's, RAL 7040 on the top and RAL 7035 on the
bottom, with bright orange mixed with a bit of red on the tail top and wing
tips. Decals come from Max Decals 48001, the tiger head from the Icarus Decals
Hellanic Air Force Jets pt.2, the Shamrocks from a spare airliner sheet and a
few from the kit box.
I chose not to put
every stencil on the kit, preferring a "clean" bird.
Ahhh, if only.......
Liam
