For the final
installment of this article I'd like to show a little of the work I put in
to remedy some of the deficiencies necessary during the
production of a
mass market injection molded kit. I could have re-scribed the panel lines
and rivet detail completely, but instead I chose to stick with the kit
lines and simply add more detail where the kit parts lacked any. This
needed to be done mainly at the rear around the engine panels.

I managed to find some aspect to
re-work on almost every part of the kit, but I was trying to copy reference
pictures I'd seen on a DVD available from aircraftphoto.ru.
This is an exemplary product and a great boon to anyone modelling this big
Russian jet. As I've explained in parts one and two, I used alot of
aftermarket parts so now it was necessary to lift the remainder of the model
to that standard if at all possible.
I would say that the parts I
spent most time on were the gear legs. The nose gear leg builds up
reasonably well but benefits from additional plumbing and etched parts by
Eduard. The main gear legs require a bit more work. Again, plenty of pipes
were added as the full sized items are very complex. In addition to the
plumbing the wheel back plates had alot of work done to them. Once complete
the result is quite convincing and worth the extra effort in my opinion.
For anyone who might
be interested, a full and in-depth build report can be found here: http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index.php?showtopic=46334&hl=Flanker
I would like to
thank everyone who contributed their comments and help during this build. I hope
you enjoy the pictures.
