This
is my Monogram 1/48 Focke Wulf Fw 190.
Construction
I
originally built this model more than 20 years ago
and don't recall any major problems with the construction.
As is typical of Monogram kits, the overall level of detail and the
dimensions are good. The
instrument panel consists of a decal and there are no wheel wells.
There is also no engine detail, other than the cooling fan behind
the propeller, and there are cutouts in the bottom of the wings for adding
the various ordnance and drop tanks that come with the kit, as opposed to
providing the modeler with the option of drilling out the holes to attach
these.

Painting
When
I originally painted the model, I wasn’t familiar with the underside
color of RLM 76 Hellblau so, in keeping with the kit’s instructions of
painting the area light blue, the underside and fuselage sides were spray
painted using Testors Light Blue; oh well! The topside camouflage colors
were hand painted using Humbrol paints, which went on great.
Weathering
& Decaling
A
few years ago I decided to spruce it up and add a little more detail.
I drilled out the barrels of the cannons and machine guns.
The aerial wire was made from fishing line with the insulators
being Elmer’s Glue painted white.
I applied an acrylic wash to the underside and strut covers using
Polly S Night Black mixed with water.
Drybrushing of the cannons and machine guns was done using the base
coat of gun metal mixed with white.
Decals
The
decals are from the kit, with the exception of the swastika, which is from
Superscale and was kindly donated by a fellow modeler who responded to my
inquiry. I don’t
recall there being any major problems with any of the decals.
The
model represents an Fw 190 A-5 from III/JG2.
Happy
Modeling!
Rick
