1/48 Hobbycraft Hawker Sea Fury

Staying with the Korean War aircraft theme, my next subject is a Royal Navy Sea Fury FB11.  This well known Sea Fury from 802 squadron (VJ 232), operating from the HMS Ocean, was flown by Peter Carmichael who had the distinction of shooting down a Mig-15 in August 1952.

The Hobbycraft kit is fairly basic and OOB builds into a decent replica for a very reasonable price... just in case you want a collection of Sea Furys. J  If you want to enter a contest you should track down some after-market additions or prepare yourself for some amount of custom detailing.  As I’m aiming for a volume of aircraft in the display case I opted for OOB.  For a quick rundown on the Hobbycraft kit; the panel lines are overdone, the gear doors are too heavy, the prop is not quite right and the cockpit detail is minimal (mind you with the Hobbycraft canopy closed you won’t be seeing much interior detail anyway.) J  However for a “quick build” producing a decent replica for a few dollars I won’t really complain.  If you want to see this kit’s potential, hunt down Stuart Hurley’s excellent modeling on this kit, which is just “inspirational”.
