This is my entry for
the F-4 Phantom II 50th Anniversary Group Build. It is a 1:48th scale F-4J from
Monogram. When I picked the kit up at the shop, I instantly felt all the
nostalgia of building this model as a kid. I was so inspired, I decided to
forego the modern techniques and go back to the way I built models 25 years ago
as a kid. With the exception of a little putty to fill a large seam on the
intake and the use of future, this is what a model would have looked like on my
shelf 25 years ago. It is completely OOB (I did have to use SuperScale decals
because the kit decals were unusable), I painted the entire model using
ModelMaster acrylic Gloss Black with a brush. The only thing that was not
brushed was the white landing gears and in the wheel wells....I used a rattle
can for that.

This has
been one of my most satisfying builds since returning to the hobby. I
smiled almost the entire time I was working on this project. It was one of
those projects that makes you sad when it is complete...knowing all there
is left is to stick it on your shelf and dust it every once in awhile.
