This is my recently
completed 1/48 DML Fokker E.V. I started this kit about a year ago, but
put it down many times due to my inexperience working with photoetch and full
wraparound decals. I added quite a bit of scratchbuilt and heavily
modified kit parts to this one, a first for me. The rear cockpit bulkhead
was "stitched" to the frame, a new interior frame and seat support was
built with brass wire, rudder controls were added, control surfaces were cut
free and dropped, M/G barrels replaced with brass tubing, the engine received
plug wires, the axles were cut off and new ones made from brass wire to get that
splayed-out look, and the prop was hand carved from laminated wood. I am
especially proud of that prop as I was trying to paint the laminated look onto
the kit part, with unsatisfactory results. I ended up getting sheets of
1/32" basswood and mohogany, laminating them together, then carving it into
shape. The prop hub was constructed of brass discs with grandt line
nut/bolts. The lozenge decals look great to me, but were not easy to
apply. They had a tendency to rip and tear quite easily.
Unfortunately, these are OOP and I only had enough to do one aircraft so I was
not allowed very many foul-ups! In the end, they worked and I am happy
with the look of them. They were graciously given to me by a friend
(Thanks Mike!). The markings are generic, as I wanted to model a factory
fresh aircraft without any personal markings. Thanks for looking!

Overall, I really enjoyed
this build despite some of the challenges it presented. Next up, the
new Eduard Fokker Dr.I!
