As a front line strike fighter unit, the Blue Blasters directly participated in World War II, the Cuban Crisis, the Vietnam Conflict, and Desert Shield as well as the current wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.  The squadron has flown eight different aircraft  types from the decks of 24 carriers during it's operational history.

This new decal sheet from Cutting Edge Modelworks includes VFA-34 markings for an F/A-18C in 1/32 scale.

Cutting Edge has been very busy creating first rate decals and resin detail items for the new 1/32 Academy F/A-18C.  This sheet is the second part of a decal sheet set dealing with F/A-18C's involved recently in the Persian Gulf region.

This particular Hornet featured on this sheet is a CAG bird with VFA-34 as flown by Capt. Dana "Smudge" Potts.  This Hornet was operating off the CVW-17 USS George Washington during it's combat cruise to Afghanistan and Iraq between July and December 2002.

The markings are a lo-viz TPS gray scheme of FS 36375 and FS 36320 with some very unique markings on the outside of the vertical stabilizers.  One features the Squadron's artwork in the form of a cigarette smoking skull with red wings.  The other side features artwork of "a deck of cards with the Joker card on top".

The decals were flawlessly printed and the clear carrier film is trimmed very close to the crisply printed colored areas, which is always good to see.

The instructions are clear and an extra page of text instruction is included with a small bit of info about this plane as well as helpful tips for decal application.

A very nice decal sheet and highly recommended.

I would like to thank Cutting Edge Modelworks for providing me with this review sample.
