One important item with model making
is tools. There are tons of tools that available on the market for us modellers.
Hasegawa offers an excellent range of tools and their latest addition is a
modelling punch in 1mm and 1.5mm diameters with interchangeable heads. The
handle/body of the punch has a nice weight to it and feels very sturdy when
handling it. As mentioned before the punch heads are interchangeable and are
very sharp.

I found when punching out some .60 plastic
sheet I had lying around, that the disc would stay in the punch head. It
would have been a bonus if there was a hole through the centre of the
punch to push a rod through to dislodge the stuck plastic disc. If you
were trying to dislodge it from the front you will need to pay some
caution, as you may damage the cutting blade/surface.
There are a couple of other options
of punch sets, that are on offer from other tool makers, but they can be quite
pricey. You can pick up the 3 Punch sets that are available from Hasegawa for
about US$20 per set. They are worth the price and would be an excellent
addiction to any modelers tool box.
I would like to thank HobbyLink Japan (www.hlj.com
) for this review sample.
