Silly Week 2010

Here is my Hasegawa 1/24 scale Ferrari 250TR "Testa Rossa"

In the 50's Ferrari was famous for taking street cars and putting them on a race track, as well as taking race cars and putting them on the street. The 250TR would fall in the latter category. Powered by the Ferrari "Colombo" 3 litre V-12 in a very light aerodynamic chassis, it wasn't long before the racing version started winning races worldwide. The name "Testa Rossa" is for the red painted cam covers on the engine, this would be one of the first Ferraris to do so. That tradition was revived in the '80s with the "Testarossa" and has been a staple at Ferrari ever since.

The kit is one of the first mainstream kits of the 250TR I have ever seen. I've been a Ferrari fan for ages and I've always wanted a decent model, this kit fit the bill nicely. The only real problems I remember were the front inner fender to main body joins which took a few attempts to get lined up right with little or no positive placement points and several mold separation seams around the very curvy body, lots of slide mold technology used here.

For the cockpit I added some lap belts made from leftover "Modelers" brand F1 harnesses. The windshield frame was done using Testors Model Master self adhesive chrome foil. The exterior was painted with Model Master Italian Red enamels, and polished out with a Novus plastic polishing sample pack, Got to get me some of that stuff. Decals are from the kit, "cut and pasted" to honor the Late Gilles Villeneuve.

Salut Gilles!

I highly recommend this kit.
