1/72 Hobbyboss Chance Vought F4U-1 Corsair

This Corsair was done in 2007.  Few years ago, I wanted to try one of these Hobbyboss easy assembly kits.  I wasn't very excited by the box art, but interesting comments I read about it pushed me to try.   Found a Corsair and I took advantage of a groupbuild on a French forum to do it.

For a first try, I decided to do only a straight from the box building. About the building itself, there are nothing special to say : a limited number of parts and no special problem with fitting. For the cockpit, the strict minimum is here. 2 canopies are provided (one in one piece and one in two, for the closed and opened positions). The canopy part used has taken a Klir/Future bath. HVAR rockets are molded with their supports and have to be placed in big holes in the wings.

For the colors, the only paint mentioned is a Gunze Deck Blue n°365. And that's all. So, my colors selection is maybe not 100% accurate, but I decided this :

  • overall color (including undercarriage legs and wheels) : midnight blue Humbrol 15,

  • interior colors :  green H80 and yellow H81,

  • for other details : black H33, grey H127(?), brown H62, silver, green H86 and yellow H24.

All enamels applied with a brush.

For the markings, I prefer the aircraft belonging to the VMF-511 based on the USS Block Island, because it has a pin-up painted on the nose and it seems to me that it wasn't a common practice in the USMC or USN. I touched up the pin-up with a flesh color.

From this kit, I retain a simple building and a shape which looks OK.  The potential for improvements is limited, due to it conception.  But I'm satisfied with this kit.  Tried and adopted!

Hope you liked it.
