United States of America Independence Day 2010

This Wildcat was done during last October, during a special groupbuild.  Special because the only rule was to do a kit in 24 hours organized on 1 week.  The subject was free and, because it's the first time I did that, I prudently decided to start with... a Hobbyboss kit!

The build was easy (once again).  I improved the cockpit with metal foil strips (seats belts) and a piece of styrene card (cut and pierced for to look like a Wildcat instrument panel).

For the painting, we have the choice between a classical dark blue/medium blue/white camouflage and a white & grey camouflage.  The happy winner is the second option because it's less common.  The decals depict a aircraft belonging to the VC-12.
The entire aircraft was painted with acrylics (Gunze, Tamiya, Humbrol, Prince August, Revell).  The insignia white was sprayed with a Tamiya spray can while the grey (Gunze H317) was airbrushed.  Weathered with artist's oils and the Tamiya weathering set, once again.

Indeed, I like these kits : cheap and easy, they are restful between harder projects.

Hope you like it.
