1/48 Hasegawa FW 190A-8

This is my latest build of the beautiful Hasegawa 1:48 FW 190A-8.  This colorful plane was a great example of the late war camoflauge found on re-cycled Luftwaffe aircraft. The plane shows evidence of a new tail unit, replaced rudder and engine "power egg". The result is a mixed scheme that has about all the late RLM colors, RLM 75, 76, 81, 83, and that "mystery" color light green/blue, that my old friend Tom Ivie coined "RLM 84". The photo of the real AC is from my personal collection.

The model was a fast build for me, under 4 weeks. It is "Kinda-Out-Of-The-Box".  I just can't bring myself to build a true OOB model, that takes some of the fun out of it for me. I added an Ultra Cast seat and pitot tube, scratch built some canopy rails on the cockpit sides, added details such as O2 regulator and hose, throttle quadrant,  canopy release, and map/logbook case. LG covers were cut down to match the real AC. Gunz "Mr Color" paints were airbrushed using my Badger 100G and 150 airbrushes. The RLM 81 is a mix of MC 81 (2/3) and MC Red/Brown (1/3) I feel this matches well the brown version of RLM 81. Decals were from the spares cache.

Just a great little kit that can be considered, with a little extra work, a front runner when it comes to building an accurate "Wurger" in 1:48th scale.
