The Fall of The Reich 1945

This kit came with metal parts, photo etched parts, brass tubing, and very thin cables for details.  I was not very successful with the cockpit photo etched parts so, I purchased a True Details resin cockpit set and I acquired a set of Master, Brass, 151mm guns for the wings.  For painting I used Humbrol and MM enamel paints. The kit was weathered using the Pro Modeler wash, and metallic silver paint and the paint chipping techniques described in the “tool and tips” section of this website.  I also did some scratch building to add details to the metal parts.

The kit was very nice since it included so many parts for detailing, some of which I never had experience with. There were two things I did not like about this kit. The fit of the wings was a little problematic, and this kit also lacked a detailed engine which it would have been a great touch for this project. The decals were Ok, but I wish I would have acquired an aftermarket decal set to enhance this model.

My intent was to make this Dora look likevery dirty and battle-worn war bird.  You be the judge.

It took me six weeks to complete this model, and I was pretty pleased with the results. This model is the first kit that I’ve included photo etch, metal, and resin parts for its construction.  It also marks the first time I ever attempted any scratch building and applying silvering techniques.  No, it’s not perfect or to the level of some of the master modelers, but it sure is one of the best models I’ve ever put together using so many different materials. I hope you enjoy it.
