Greetings, this is my representation of the venerable A-1H Skyraider
"Sandy," from Monogram Kit Number 5454, dated 1980-1988. This
build is meant to be a Christmas present to a retired Air Force neighbor of
mine. I finally had him open up about his Viet-Nam experience, and the
one bird and pilots that he has a lot of respect for turned out to be the Sandy
(rightfully so). This is an OOB build that was
very much a straight forward build. I used Model Master Paints, and the
four color camouflage scheme was applied free hand with my old but trusty $10
airbrush. This Monogram kit turned out to be a nice kit with sufficient detail.
I did not have to use any putty during the build, and I only have two complaints
about the kit. The first one is the excess plastic around the edges on most
of the parts, and the second is that the print on the instructions was font
size six (thank God for the magnifying glass). I used the Pro Modelers
wash and pastel dark colors for the weathering.

When I set to do this build, I wanted to put together a diorama but I was short
of time to even begin the project. Furthermore, I was unable to find some
baseball figurines in the right scale to include them in the diorama.
He
provided to me a good mental picture during our conversation of his
memories, and this will be a future project of mine to complete the job.
I
enjoyed building this kit, and I hope that all of you enjoy the photos.
Victor De Jesus
