This is 1/48 Tamiya Spitfire Mk1a with the markings of RAuxAF No 602 City of Glasgow Squadron at Drem- East Lothian, Scotland. This MkI K9955 was flown by pilot officer Archie McKellar in March 1940.

Note the one of the earliest examples of nose art and kill marks on a RAF fighter. Also note the antenna mast and the sheet metal “L” shaped blinkers on the cowling.

I decided to build McKellar s aircraft when I got “Fündekals” Spitfire Mk1 decal set.

I have used some after market goodies to improve Tamiya’s Spitfire:

  • Eduard instrument panel

  • Ultracast resin seat

  • Ultracast resin cockpit door without crowbar & fittings

  • Ultracast exhausts

Painting was made with Gunze and Tamiya acrylics. Metal “L” shaped blinkers on the cowling made from thin plastic sheet. Maybe it s a little overscale, but I have to live with this for this time being.

Decals and information are from Fündekals .

Happy Modelling
