My model represents 6-3, an early Messerschmitt BF 109A ‘Anton’ assigned to the 2.JG/88 wing of Nazi Germany's Legion Condor that served with the Nationalists in the Spanish Civil War circa 1937.

I used the 1/48 Classic Airframes Early BF109s (#4123) kit with a mixture of styrene, resin and photoetch parts and excellent decals by Cartograf.

Painting was completed using various shades of four Alclad II lacquers (white aluminum, dark aluminum, aluminum, duraluminum) followed by RLM02 on the fabric covered ailerons and elevators. Raw umber oil filters and pin washes along with several shades of brown and gray pastels were used to replicate a modestly weathered aircraft to match historical photos. Light tan followed by coarse brushing of raw umber oil paint was applied to the Schwarz wooden prop. This was allowed to dry, sprayed with Future, then painted RLM02 on the front portion of the blades, Flat Black on the rear, RLM63 on the hub and Flat White on the tip. Paint chipping on the propeller was achieved by light sanding along the leading edges to allow the wood finish to show through.

Enjoy!
