1/48 Academy  MiG-21 PFM (L-14)

--------------------

This is my Academy MiG-21 PF converted to PFM version.  I used LiftHere decals, Black Box cockpit, CMK wheels and some parts from Verlinden MiG-21 PF
update set (mainly cockpit parts).  The kit went together very well.

Yugoslavia was the second country in the world after the Soviet Union that equipped their Air Force with MiG-21s.  The first examples of MiG-21F-13 were delivered in 1962.  The PFM version was the second generation of MiG-21 and had some limited all weather capabilities.  Delivery of MiG-21 PFM started in 1968 and YAF received 36 machines.  All aircraft were delivered unpainted, but after their first major overhaul, they were painted in silver and sprayed with special clear lacquer to minimize drag.
Only a few examples were painted in experimental camouflage colours and my model represents one of them.  It is MiG-21 PFM, No 22719/719, 117 Fighter Regiment, Bihac AF Base in mid '70.

The last of Yugoslav MiG-21 PFMs were retired in 1994, after 27 years of service.  Yugoslav MiGs flew right next to Sabres and Thunderjets in the YAF and it was a precedent in the Cold War world.
