This is the
venerable Revell 1/72 scale Bf109G-10 built using the Loon Models correction set
which includes a resin wing with dropped slats/flaps and corrected LG
attachments, small wheel bumps, supercharger intake, rudder and tall tail wheel.
(Available from Roll Models www.rollmodels.com)
The Loon set is relatively expensive (US $21.00) but it corrects the
problems with the Revell kit and is a drop fit; no cutting required.
I usually build in 1/48 scale, so this model is a slight departure from the norm
for me.

The kit cockpit detail is very
sparse. Instead of investing more money on aftermarket, I modeled
this one with the canopy closed.
I painted the model using Tamiya acrylics mixed to acheive RLM 74/75/76.
The decals are from the kit except for the spiral on the spinner which is hand
painted. (I couldn't get the kit decal to conform to shape despite copious
amounts of Microsol.)
The red paint on the
undercarriage denotes that this aircraft used high octane aviation fuel, a
visual warning to ground crews not to fill the tanks with the wrong grade, a
potentially fatal (for the pilot) mistake.
I very much enjoyed adding this
neat little Messerschmitt to my collection and I hope you enjoy it as well.
