This is my model of
the Danish basic trainer, Saab T-17. The kit is from Broplan, and it is the
only kit of this type, as far as I know. It is a limited-run injection kit and
quite expensive. The quality of the plastic is not that good, very soft, and the
vacform canopy is not very clear, but anyway I am happy that someone has made
this charming little plane.
Construction was
straight forward, the only bits I had to add, was a scratch built instrument
panel, the seat belts and the antennas. A bit of sanding and filling was
needed as well.
Painting was quite
easy, as the plane is green over all. The green color on Danish aircraft
is
FS.14079, but I wanted my plane to look a bit sun faded, and found that olive
drab ana.613 mixed with 20% white made the right color. There is no decals with
the kit, so I got mine from Sto-Decal, who makes decals for all aircraft in
Danish service. You can buy them online from www.stoppel.dk.
To show how small
this plane is, I have taken a picture where I put the T-17 next to an A-1 that I
am about to finish.
Happy modelling. T
Drakendk
