1/48 Tamiya Swordfish

This is my entry for the ARC Floatplane/Seaplane group build taking place between Dec 06 and May 07.  The Tamiya 1/48 Fairey Swordfish floatplane makes a marvellous model straight from the box although I have added PE from both Eduard and also the Tamiya PE rigging wires sold seperately.

The diorama depicts a Fairey Swordfish of 765th Squadron based in Gibraltar 1941.  Ground crew are moving the 'Stringbag' to the end of the jetty for refuelling and working on the aircraft.  Two of the crew have walked over to discuss the work and in fact the gunner has decided to take a quick nap!

Biggest headache of the build being the rigging(what a surprise) but it all came good in the end. The 'water' has been created using clear casting resin with dye added to create the colour of a deep water harbour.  The pilot figures from CMK are shown without the full length flying suits worn in these open cockpit aircraft, but I guess the crate ain't ready to fly yet!  Scratchbuilt jetty and a picture frame used as the base, the other bits and bobs I had lying around and so I put them to good use.  Paints are Tamiya and kit decals.

Hope you like it and thanks for looking.

Pete
