  Turkey Republic Day 2007

Here is my 1/48 Hasegawa F-86 E(M) Sabre with Turkish Air Force (TuaF) markings.

As the newer Mk 5 and Mk 6 Sabres built by Canadair became available, most RCAF Sabre Mk 2 and 4’s were retrofitted with extended wing leading edges and then sold to foreign air forces.  These planes are known as F-86E(M) where “M” stands for “modified.  In 1954, the Turkish Air Force (TuaF) acquired 105 of these  refurbished ex-RCAF F-86E(M) aircraft.  And these were well used until 1968

The model is based on the F-86 E(M) ( 19.335 tail number) from the 141st squadron.  I used the Hasegawa F-86 F30 kit to build it as TuAF’s F-86 E(M).

The construction began with the cockpit as usual.  The components were painted to FS 36231 grey with Gunze Sangyo acrylic paint.  I added the instrument panel and the seat belts from Eduard.

Some panels and air scoops are deleted for accuracy.

To downgrade the windscreen unique V shape, I used the unique option from Cutting Edge. (CEC 48197 -F-86E (early) Conversion set ).

The model is painted with Alclad Aluminium.  I used various tones from Alclad family to differentiate the panels.

National insignias and flags are from “Turquoise Decal” set.

I used Xtradecal  X72-065  and  Eagle Strike  48-1147  decal sets for the code numbers.  The stencils are mostly from the box.

Happy modelling
