Revell USS Yorktown

Silly Week 2008

This kit is just too big to get into a photo properly, at least for me; I believe this scales out at around 1/480 or so.

I received this as a Christmas gift from my in-laws a few years ago and finally decided to build it late in 2007.  It wasn't as big as the box led me to believe, but it is still a long model, about 18-19" long.  There isn't much in the way of detail but since I'm not a ship modeler, I just built it out of the box.  It's a change of pace from aircraft projects and it didn't turn out too bad.  I found an internet resource for the 1942 paint scheme called Measure 12; I gathered the appropriate paints from the Model Master line and one from Tamiya and painted it accordingly.  The stand's raised details were painted with a silver Sharpie and Tamiya Gold acrylic paint, oversprayed with Dullcote then weathered with watercolors to add detail to the aviator wings.  Happy New Year, fellow plastic surgeons!
