1/72 Academy F-14A Tomcat

VF-84 Jolly Rogers

--------------------

Hallo

I want present you my Tomcat in “Jolly Rogers” markings from 1986 onboard the “Nimitz”.

This project lasted a long time with a lot of breaks, but I am very happy that I finished it.

The plusses of the model are: its price and engraved panel lines, but that is all ;-) (ok a full set of weapons).

But there are quite a lot minuses: parts don’t fit very well and I used quite a lot of putty. Especially at the connection of the front part of fuselage which has a problem with the rest of model – step and little different section.  Other minuses are simplifications or lack of details in some parts

But the most important is that after many hours model presents not bad (in my opinion) and looks like F-14A.

I added two resin seats, to make the interior more attractive, and some wires and details in front wheel bay, because it was completely empty.  I also removed a few details from the model surface to get the earlier version of F-14A.

I painted my model with MM : flat gull gray, black, random tan and white – these are main colors.  The decals are from Hasegawa, Esci and Academy/design kits.  To help applying the decals, I first cover model with Sidolux (polish future) and then I used Mr Mark Setter.  The final coat was a mixture 50%-50% of Humbrol matt and satin lacquers.  Red stripe in back part is also painted.

I am very happy with the results and I hope you like it too.

Best Regards

Andrzej
