1/48 Revell OA-37B Dragonfly

Here is my Revell (ex-Monogram) 1/48 OA-37B Dragonfly of the 19th TAAS as stationed in Osan AB, South Korea, during the early '80s. This was an easy build, only using a few Airwaves photo-etch elements in the cockpit and around the airframe (including the very nice FOD screens below the intakes). The kit has raised panel lines, which I sanded a bit to slightly tone them down. The remaining lines where then pre-shaded prior to the Gunship Grey top color (ModelMaster). I experimented with different shades of the Gunship Grey in order to achieve some variations and fading effects. Decals are from the kit and are of good quality, also these decals got some light overspray of Gunship Grey to blend them in the overall finishing. The antennae are made from stretched sprue.

In their FAC role, the Dragonflys often carried, besides the typical 4 fuel tanks, rocket pods to mark targets.  Instead, I chose to use the 7.62mm gun pods that are part of the kit, as I wanted to use these very nicely molded components.  I couldn’t find any reference pictures of this particular configuration on a TAAS bird, so it maybe not 100% realistic, but I certainly like the effect!

Enjoy the pictures!
