Hello everyone! This
is a little diorama I built for the "Hel.Mo."
Model Show 2008 at Aigio, Greece! The kit comes from Airfix and is very
very basic. It was built in barely 10 minutes since there were no additions made
and no superdetailing. I always wanted to build an Avenger from Flight 19 and
this was my chance! I finally opted to build an Avenger on the bottom of the sea
since I had no time for a full-scale build. At first I painted the model dark
blue, then I applied the decals and then several overall washes with white
followed in order to cover the blue paint. All those random stains of rust were
made with the use of little sponges and many shades of brown and red colours. A
final wash with Molak rust brought all those shades together. Needless to say
that I used Humbrol and Molak enamels paints for this one since I painted it
using brushes. In order to represent the rust on the plane I used baking soda as
you can see in the photos. After the soda had dried I washed it with the same
rust wash but much more thinned this time.

The diorama
base was made of wood. The bottom of the sea is mainly plaster, sand from
the beach and pebbles from the garden. The seaweeds were dried mint
leaves from the supermarket! I can surely tell you that even now that the
diorama is in its glass case, it still smells nice!!!
Since
time was running out for our Model Show I had to improvise for the colour of the
bottom of the sea. Blue-coloured plexiglass would take some time to order and
have it in my hands in time, so I made the case from common 3mm glass covered in
blue transparencies!!! I was quite satisfied with the final outcome! I hope you
are too!!!
