With
rising tensions from South America, the Unites States Navy needed a revised
aggressor that will match the future threats from very small but nimble
aircraft. The Navy has an aggressor squadron on the East coast (VFC-12) and a
squadron on the West coast (VFC-13) but nothing in the central area of the
states. With the USAF getting rid of the T-37 at Vance AFB in Enid Oklahoma, the
Navy decided to acquire these aircraft. It was a perfect match since the Navy
already shares the T-6 “Texan II” fight training with the USAF and all
the T/A-37 maintenance equipment is in place, the VFC-12.5 was born.
Many
of the pilots are retired and former military pilots usually working under
contract with the Navy, much like the “King Crow” electronic jamming
programs. Rumor has it, a member of ARC (F-15 pilot….I think) has been spotted
flying one of these aggressors and has quite a reputation in the squadron. I am
not naming names…..
