Silly Week 2009

After a tornado went through the main airport at Minneapolis-Saint Paul, two enterprising brothers rebuilt two damaged Cessna 337s into one: the first twin twin! Forming an airline, Doppleganger Air Transport, they were initially flew a shuttle route between Sault Ste. Marie Ontario and Sault Ste. Marie in Wisconsin, but moved to a more profitable route between Dallas and Forth Worth in Texas. Using the Twin 337 had advantages such as seating for 8 in a much cheaper package, but suffered loading and balance problems.

Eventually, the airline ceased operations and this unique plane was sold to interests in Thailand where it was separated and returned to being two individual functioning aircraft.

This one turned out nicer than I had anticipated. Using two Testors 1/48th Skymaster kits, I merely used one of the inner wing sections to join the inner boom section, straightened that section of wing out into a zero dihedral, and assembled the rest straight out of the box. Decals came from my inkjet printer, and the crew/passengers came from a couple Bandai 1/48th Light Planes. I think the guy in the sports jacket looks a bit like Carl Sagan.
