Hasegawa
have brought out their 1/48 A-4E kit in “Top Gun” colours. This great
looking aircraft is well suited to the colourful paintjob and clean airframe of
an aggressor fighter and Hasegawa’s A-4 is a quality kit.

There
are some stand-out features on the kit. Engraved and raised surface detail on
wings and fuse is very clean and restrained. The undercarriage bays contain as
much detail as anyone could reasonably ask for in one piece injection molded
plastic parts. Control surfaces have not been provided as separate pieces but
are so well defined at their connections to the main planes, vertical and
horizontal stabilisers they appear separate - the rudder is particularly crisp.
The inner surfaces of the air brakes are pretty nicely done for plastic. The
padded cockpit interior shows nice depth to its finish. Yeah it’s nice work…
You
get just two marking options for the
Fighter
Weapons
School
in this kit but of course there are more decal options out there in the market.
But these box ones do look pretty hot:
- No.55
BuNo 151095 of Lt Michell “Mick” in green, tan and sand.
- No.56
BuNo 150023 of Lt Mark Jackson “Action” in gray and gray/blue..
Ok
so nothing new in plastic and just a few new decals and a nice photo in place of
actual box art but still…how can you go wrong by buying a model of this
beautiful plane?
